1945 — Company founded as Douglas Engineering Company in Newark, NJ by Edward B. Douglas. In addition to working as a consulting engineer, initial manufactured products were electro-mechanical assemblies used in propeller driven aircraft.

1946 — Company moved to expanded quarters in Lincoln Park, NJ.

1953 — Company moved to new, larger location in Montville where the larger quarters permitted the manufacture of high reliability (aircraft) electric assemblies. Expertise in the design and production of magnet coils was developed and new demand for this product line required another move to larger quarters. The primary customer for these components was Curtiss-Wright Corp.

1963 — Company moved to Rockaway, NJ where the company provided the two preeminent magnetic flow meter manufacturers (Foxboro and Fisher & Porter) with field coils ranging in sizes from 2 inches through 8 feet.

1968 — Duncan E. Douglas, the son of the founder, joined the company.

1975 — Company pioneered the development and practical application of electrical wire feedthroughs using their epoxy technology which had been utilized in manufacturing field coils for magnetic flow meters.

1978 — Upon the death of Edward Douglas, Duncan E. Douglas became company President.

1980 — Company developed and marketed the first line of in-line PotCon hermetic connectors. The PotCon design was unique in that it permitted customers to connect their harnesses and conduct testing on the bench top.

1985 — Company manufactured its last magnet coil, focusing all business efforts on the electrical feedthrough line.

1986 — Company developed and commercialized a process for sealing optical fibers.

2000 — Duncan’s son Edward W. Douglas, joined the company as the Vice-President and General Manager — the third generation to head the business. Ed brought to the job 10 years of extensive experience in high volume contract manufacturing, engineering management and general management.

2001 — Changed company name to Douglas Electrical Components, Inc. to more accurately reflect the manufacturing focus of the operations.

2002 — Achieved ISO 9000 registration.

2006 — 100% of the outstanding shares in Douglas Electrical Components are purchased by the company's new President, Edward W Douglas, the third generation ownership of the company.

2008 — Moved all manufacturing and support functions to new facility in Randolph, NJ.
