Douglas Electrical Components pioneered the development and practical application of epoxy technology to electrical wire feedthroughs, applying the same technology that had been utilized for decades in manufacturing field coils for magnetic flow meters. Our first product was an NPT epoxy body sealing hermetic connector that was designed to replace a common ceramic connector; short lengths of #14 and #24 AWG wires. From that first innovative wire harness feedthrough we developed the hermetically sealed connectors, feedthrus, hermetic fiber optic bulkhead connectors, sealed coaxial connectors, and broad line of electrical feedthroughs that are offered in the pages to follow.
Our customers have encouraged the evolution of our hermetically sealed product lines, often times to replace a sealed ceramic connector. The diversification of our products resulted from this precept - virtually every product innovation has been in response to a design challenge by a customer.
Convincing potential customers that our epoxy sealed connector technology was valid for the range of environments they required, was one of our first challenges. We are now accepted for applications over an astonishing dynamic range… 1x10-9 Torr through 15,000 psi. The vacuum feedthrough conductors that we have sealed include AWG #38 through 500MCM wires, cables and harnesses, and we do seal! Conductor counts have ranged from single wires through 3,200 wires in a single feedthrough, cable lengths have ranged from "stubs" through 2,000 meters.
We have produced one-of-a-kind special assemblies that weigh 2,000lbs, as an example of our capabilities for size and quantity, and have produced production lot sizes to 250,000+ pieces per year.
